Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of content on Highland County Criminal History. Using the website means accepting all terms below. A visitor who does not agree must stop using it.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no government affiliation. Neither it nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or any other Fair Credit Reporting Act purpose. Highland County and Virginia record-resource information is offered for general reference. This is not a private investigation firm or a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is an independent private reference site. It does not store official criminal records, retrieve a file, perform an official check, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its function is to identify custodians of Highland County records, including the Sheriff, the General District clerk, the Circuit clerk, Virginia State Police CCRE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry, and to provide access to optional third-party research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of the site is conditioned on the following restrictions. A visitor must not:

  • Interfere with performance or prevent others from reaching the service
  • Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools against the pages
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system, account, or protected area
  • Use site content for hiring, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Threaten, harass, or stalk a person using information found here
  • Violate federal, Virginia, or local law while using the website

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked tool may not be used to stalk, intimidate, threaten, harass, or discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also be criminal. Virginia places special restrictions around the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry under Virginia Code §9.1-900 et seq. Registry data supports public awareness, not vigilantism, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not produce consumer, credit, or background reports. Its advertising partners also are not presented here as services for applicant, rental, insurance, or credit decisions. Information from the site or a linked tool may not be used to:

  • Take any action regulated by the FCRA
  • Decide eligibility for a permit, license, or public program
  • Assess credit or establish an insurance premium
  • Evaluate a rental or housing applicant
  • Make a hiring or firing decision

A lawful FCRA-regulated check must be obtained through the appropriate official Virginia State Police process or a provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

General information about Highland County records is not legal advice. Only a licensed Virginia attorney can assess how a charge, warrant, conviction, sealing rule, or expungement law applies to a particular situation.

6. No Warranties

All services and content are supplied "as is." No promise is made that:

  • An outside search partner will return complete or correct results
  • Pages contain no error, bug, or security weakness
  • The website will operate without interruption
  • Any information is complete, accurate, or current

Charges can be filed, amended, dismissed, expunged, or sealed, so gaps and delays are unavoidable. Content here is never an official statement from the Highland Sheriff, a court, or a Virginia agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to government offices, court systems, legal-aid groups, or outside search services. Those destinations are beyond our control. We are not responsible for their content, availability, charges, or data practices, and a visitor should read their terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Highland County Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, graphics, logos, and code. Written permission is required before copying, changing, distributing, or creating derivative material from that content.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for harm arising from use of the website, including reliance on information obtained here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A visitor agrees to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, demands, or proceedings caused by the visitor's use of the site or breach of these terms, including related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms, including applicable Virginia consumer-protection law and the criminal-history dissemination limits in Virginia Code §19.2-389 et seq. Any dispute arising from site use must be brought in a court located in Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

These conditions may be revised at any time. A revised version becomes effective when posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected text will be narrowed only as far as necessary to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
